Q. How many stools should I take samples from?

A. If your bowel movements are regular and you can repeat more than once per day over three days, please do so as it will optimise the test result.

Q. What if I don’t have a bowel movement on three consecutive days?

A. If you have infrequent bowel movements please wait until day 3 to see if you can do more than one collection before returning the sample.

Q. If I only manage one bowel motion in three days, is that enough for testing purposes?

A. Yes, it will be fine and we may ask you to provide another sample six months later.

Q. If I manage a bowel motion more than once a day, should I use more than one stool a day for sampling?

A. No, you should only test one stool per day.

Q. Do I have to use the glove(s) provided?

A. The glove(s) is there for your comfort should you prefer to use it, but it is not absolutely necessary to use so long as you wash your hands before and after the testing for hygiene reasons.

Q. Does the paper stool catcher need to be kept urine free too?

A.If the paper stool catcher becomes moist from water or urine it may lose strength and not work as designed. Please keep the stool collector as dry as possible.

Q. If I don’t get the sample into the post straight away, how long can it be stored in the refrigerator?

A. Please ensure that you post the sample no later than four days after the first collection.

Q. How much of my stool sample needs to be attached to the stick?

A. Just enough to cover the threads at the end of the stick, no more.
