Are you approaching your 50’s and worried about bowel cancer, or concerned that you may have the symptoms of bowel cancer? Bowel cancer affects both men and women with close to 41,000 people diagnosed every year in the UK alone.

Yet, if bowel cancer (also known as colon cancer, rectal cancer or colorectal cancer) can be detected in its earliest stages, there is a greater than 90% chance of it being cured.

The NHS offers bowel cancer screening from the age of 60 in the UK (50 in Scotland) but the technology used in the bowel screening test is not as new as that offered privately by BowelHealth UK.

Our service, called BowelCheck, is a bowel cancer test that looks for signs of digested blood in your stools (or poo) as this can be a sign of bowel cancer. It is available to men and women over the age of 45 and can be carried out in the comfort of your own home.

What is involved in the BowelCheck bowel cancer screening test?

BowelCheck is an advanced bowel cancer test using immunohistochemistry technology and can be carried out in the privacy and comfort of the home. The bowel cancer screening service includes:

  1. Information on bowel cancer and the pros and cons of early detection which you can read through this website.
  2. An on-line sign up to register for BowelCheck
  3. A hygienic collection kit posted out to you at home containing step by step instructions

Once you have completed the BowelCheck test you simply return it in the pre-paid envelope to BowelHealth UK where it will undergo laboratory analysis. You will receive your results letter within five days.

What are the pros and cons of having bowel cancer screening with BowelCheck?

Bowel cancer screening (BowelCheck) may detect the disease at its earliest stage when there is a greater than 90% chance of curing it. BowelCheck is quick, easy to do, hygienic and discreet. With regular screening, 16% fewer people die from bowel cancer. Please note:

Waiting for your results can be an anxious time, and like other screening tools, a bowel cancer test may not always be 100% reliable. If you have a positive result it may not necessarily mean you have bowel cancer. A bowel cancer may be missed if it’s not bleeding when the test is done.

What does the bowel cancer test cost?

BowelCheck bowel cancer test costs £100 to private individuals.

When do I get my results?
